Day 2/3 Update - Sunday in the MontrĂ©al airport waiting for our flight to St. John’s Newfoundland

We took it easy yesterday. After a late breakfast, we took a long slow walk to the Cinema du Parc which is an old movie theater on the ground floor of an indoor mall mostly featuring a wide variety of Asian fast food options. We watched an excellent Korean movie called “Past Lives” based on a 12-year old boy and girl and the evolution of their relationship over 24 years. A touching and gently told story.

The hotel was very busy hosting a wedding. We met the father of the bride waiting for elevator carrying a pair of white high-heeled shoes and the bride’s veil. He seemed very calm under the circumstances .

Dinner was at a lovely bistro and wine bar on a very active corner a short walk from the hotel.

Today we ate breakfast in the hotel bistro which was bustling with a Sunday morning crowd and many members of the wedding party. We walked down to the waterfront where we found a very crowded festival highlighting music and artisans of early settlers to the area. Best described with a few photos.

And here a few from our walk - including one of the hotel entrance đŸ¥³.

 Day 1 Update

A surprisingly fluid and stress free travel day. Easy parking in the Dulles economy late and quick bus ride to the airport. Quick baggage check at the Air Canada counter, no wait breeze through the TSA-prev security entrance, short walk to our flight gate, and an on time departure to MontrĂ©al - no weather issues!

Arrival in Montréal and clearance through customs was a taxing long walk and cattle call shuffle through hundreds of fellow travelers, but seamless at the end when we were able to find our checked luggage. The line for a taxi was the longest I have ever seen, but we were able to get an Uber with no difficulty.

Arrived at our comfortable hotel in the heart of the old city by 6:30 and able to get a nice table at a popular French restaurant with live jazz at 7:30. Enjoyed a fine dinner and conversation with a couple from Witicha Kansas - the husband in town for work - and their focus on the upcoming wedding of one of their six adult children!

I am surprised by how crowded the streets are with other visitors - a very lively night scene.

Rain forecast for tomorrow.

Montreal to St. John's Newfoundland and Lindblad Canadian Maritimes Expedition

It seems somewhat likely that we will not be flying to Montreal this afternoon as planned due to thunderstorms all across the east coast. We may be spending the night in an airport at Dulles - so it goes.

This is to be a short stop over before we fly to St. John's, Newfoundland on Sunday.

This area of Canada seems to one of a few that is not burning - may it remain fire free.

Our Lindblad expition starts on Tuesday, August 29 and runs for 10 days. We will be visiting places such as St. Pierre, France, the oldest remaining French overseas territory and sites around the Gulf of St. Lawrence. I hope to be able to post some interesting history and photos.
